# 22 and 23 - tick, tick and double tick

And so it finishes...

But before we get to that I should probably tell you about my experiences with audio books. I had a search through World e-Book Fair and had a listen to the Emperor's New Clothes by Hans Christian Anderson on MP3. Although it took a while to download I got it eventually and am enjoying it now while i type this post.

So now I say goodbye. And goodbye it will probably be. I am not really the type of person to continue using a blog into the future but it is likely that I will contiue to use other web 2.0 technologies that I have discovered.

Although I have wondered throughout this program whether we will ever actually use these programs for our library i can see the benefits of completing it on a personal basis. I am sure it will assist librarians in feeling confident to answer enquiries about these technologies and it has definitely highlighted interesting techniques and technologies that i will use in my personal life.

It has been fun, thanks to all for coming on this joourney with me.

Signing off...

# 20 and 21 - tick!

So I have finally had time to get around completing this program! Hooray!!! Today I have had a look at you tube and podcasts (and will hopefully also get around to the final couple of items as well).

You tube is fun to explore but VERY time consuming to find something good. I had time to reminisce about my holiday in the Galapagos earlier this year and thought oyu might like to share some of the experience so I have put a You Tube video onto my blog (see below) called Sea Lions and their Adorable Babies in Galapagos Islands. It goes for a couple of minutes and is really sweet.

I spent some time searching for a good salsa video but found it hard to find one. All in all it was fairly fun. I happed to find a video that had been taken at my house too, thanks to a party my sister had while housesitting a couple of years ago when we went to NZ... But it is really not fit for public viewing!

Podcasts are something I have used quite frequently oon my iPod using iTunes. So i took this opportunity to use iTunes again to download another podcast or two from the radio station I listen to.

For something different I also used podcast.net which I had not used before. I found this really easy to find interesting podcasts (some of which I also downloaded to my iPod).

Using Bloglines, I have added iTunes to my RSS feeds and have been able to listen to podcasts through this.

Anyway, time to look at audio books and then number 23!

Week 8... So close yet so far!

well I have finally put aside some more time to get up with the program!

today i have had a look at Zoho writer and have managed to import a media release for a recent event, add an image and publish it to my blog (see previous post Babies Do Love Books Too)

this program is simple enough to use but once again I am not sure I would really ned to use it that often whe most computers have access to basic Microsoft programs... but hey it is good to know it exists just in case!

google docs seems good for things like the participants tracking logs where you want to show people progress but not let them alter the information, i guess in a way it is like loading a PDF onto a web page...

next of course I had a look at the web 2.0 award winners... some of these like library thing, bloglines and technorati I have seen during this course. I had a better look at Be Green which gives options for joining networks to reduce green house emissions and create a better environment as well as a carbon calculator which links you to an organisation that can offset your annual emissions. this one was interesting and useful especially when compared to coverpop where you can hover over 100s of handbags to find the best ones of the past 12 months... pointless, i think some people have too much time on their hands!

Babies DO Love Borrowing Books TOO

MEDIA RELEASE

BABIES DO LOVE BOOKS TOO

Parents, babies and Rosebud Library celebrated the launch of Babies Love Books Too last week. The launch, which attracted over 60 parents and babies, included an official opening by Councillor David Gibb, illustrations by local author and illustrator Jeannette Rowe and stories by Rosebud Branch Librarian Leanne Fox.

Following the event 25 babies were signed up as members of Our Library and received a brand new Babies Love Books Too special membership! The new Babies Love Books Too library cards have arrived and are free for babies up to 3 years old.

The cards have been implemented as a part of the Babies Love Books Too program which is run by Mornington Peninsula Library in conjunction with the Maternal and Child Health Nurses.

Babies Love Books Too is a program which aims to encourage parents to read to their children from a very early age. To help encourage this love of reading together maternal and child health nurses deliver a Babies Love Books Too library bag full of goodies to parents and babies at the 4 week child health check.

Reading with your baby helps to develop their language, listening and concentration skills. Research shows that the earlier children discover books, the greater their chance of becoming good readers. Reading together also develops a strong bond between parent and child.

The program initially funded by the Telstra Foundation was first implemented in the Western Port area in 2003. After a huge success the program, now funded by the Shire through the Library service, is to be expanded across the whole Peninsula.

The initial program piloted a community education program for parents with new born babies to influence literacy development and encourage parents to share books and read aloud to babies from birth.

On receiving the book bag 23% of parents reported they began reading to their baby for the first time and 32% of parents reported they began reading to their baby more often.

When asked, did the Babies Love Books Too bag encourage you to read to your baby earlier than you would have otherwise done? 42% responded YES.

It is hoped with the expansion of the program that these statistics will be reflected and even increased across the whole peninsula.

Come into any branch of Our Library today to celebrate the Babies Love Books Too program, join up your child and set them up for a future love of books and reading!

Week 7 Wiki'd

Well another week passes, not long to go now! I have just added my blog to the Learning 2.0 Sandbox Wiki which was pretty easy to do.

I also had a look at a couple of other wikis... I am still not sure when I would actually use these as it seems a little too easy to put in information which may not be correct. I see lots of libraries are using them to share information about policy and procedure but i can't see why this couldn't be done via email anyway???

Gee for generation y i sure am going against the grain when I say that I just don't really understand the need for some of these new programs and technologies!

d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s.........week 6

roast chicken with lemon and thyme, now that is delicious... this website well make your own decision.

So today I have had a look around del.icio.us and have created my own t-intersection account and added the del.icio.us toolbar to my explorer page. I have tagged a couple of the sites which I use regularly.

On having a look around the site I found some information on interview questions you should know answers to (so watch out boss!) and great vegetarian recipes, not that I am a vego, love a rare steak i do...

Not sure whether I would actually use the site too often but hey at least I now know it exists.

I also took a look at technorati. Both del.ciou.us and technorati are not the best looking or using friendly sites I have seen but once you get past the boring look they are fairly easy to use, should you be interested in that sort of thing.

On teechnorati I looked up www.boingboing.net which was listed as a popular site. It had plenty of fairly funny mashups on it as well as videos and more.

In exploring the Web and Library 2.0 posts ... I read "Libraries are not merely in communities, they are communities" in "To a temporary place in time..." I loved this quote. As a marketer I like to think of libraries as a place which not only provide a resource but provide friends, family and so much more.

I also loved
"But Library 4.0 will add a new mode, knowledge spa: meditation, relaxation, immersion in a luxury of ideas and thought... a retreat, a sanctuary, a pampered experience with information—subtle thoughts, fine words, exquisite brandy, smooth coffee, aromatic cigar, smell of leather, rustle of pages—to the dream economy’s library, the LIBRARY: a WiFREE space, a retreat from technohustle, with comfortable chairs, quiet, good light, coffee and single malt. You know, the library. "

I am still not really 100% sure what Library 2.0 means to me but it is good having some time to check out internet tools that I never knew existed.

Anyway, week 6 signing off!

looking both ways #12

hi again,

I have just completed the creation of a search roll using rollyo, once again you can access it through the link to the right called t-intersection rollyo.

i am currently completing a post grad in sustainability so i thought i would make it topical for my studies by creating an environment and sustainability search roll of websites which i commonly use.

so i hope all you greenies out there might get something out of this. there are some good sites regarding global warming, eco purchasing and so much more.

so happy web searching, and be good to the environment!

#11 - It's MY library thing...

Well back again and this week I have managed to actually catch up on my learning 2.0 stuff for a change.

I have created my own Library Thing page which you can see the link in my links you'll lovel list to the right. I have also managed to put in a Library Thing widget, impressing even myself with that one.

Library thing seems easy enough to use, I was able to change the layout of my page to suit me and it is soooo easy to add books to it that I got around to adding about 19 within only a few minutes. I wonder how long it would take me to do my whole collection... some other day maybe.

What a big week it has been and I am happy to be at home on a Friday afternoon getting this done. But I can say thanks to the delivery of a new desk I have totally cleaned out my office ready for a start on real work again next week.

Well the weekend and #12 awaits me enjoy the sun and rain...

South Park fun and games #10

Hi there,

I spent the weekend in the dark to celebrate the big switch off, which aims to teach us a thing or two about our reliance on technology and its effects on climate change. It was challenging trying to make dinner in the dark but I can tell you it was pretty fun relaxing into the night by candlelight with a bottle of nice wine.

Anyway, back to work...

So for Week 5 - Number 10, yes I have actually caught up, I decided to make my boy and I into South Park characters. I think they are pretty life like, what do you think? i did this through the website http://www.sp-studio.de/ it is really easy to use and a fair bit of fun.

Next I move onto Librarything which I have actually seen before so i am not too scared about getting through that one.

Technology... got to love it... #5 - #9

So, I have been mucking around with Flickr for the past hour trying to find interesting bits and pieces. I did find some great photos of places I have recently travelled to and it made me want to get away again. Anyway, you can see some of my photos on Flickr via this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/14104948@N02/

I have also created a mash-up which you will be able to see on my page shortly, I hope you all enjoy.

I also set up an account on Bloglines today and registered for a heap of subscriptions. You can link to the account by following: http://www.bloglines.com/public/t-intersection

I found some library related feeds including Unshelved, Library Journal and the Learning 2.0 Mornington Peninsula Library page to add to bloglines but was more interested in browsing some funnier sites.

Anyway, I think that is enough for one week.

Seeya,

Start your engines...

And off we go...

Learning 2.0 begins and I have created my very first blog! HOW EXCITING.

Actually I have got to say that blogs themselves don't really do a lot for me. I am not a diary type person and don't really feel the need to let everyone know what I am thinking. But anyway, all in the name of libraries.

Library marketing is really my game, I get a good deal of satisfaction out of promoting the fantastic resources, services and facilities to each and every person I meet.

Anyway, I have officially posted my first 'comments'. I hope you enjoy reading on in the future!
